Linking families and schools
Evaluation and resource development to to improve relationships between Indigenous parents and teachers
The Linking Families and Schools initiative aimed to improve relationships between schools and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families. It included processes and resources to increase engagement by families with schools and was trialled in 50 schools across Queensland.
Outpost Consulting undertook the evaluation of the initiative in three stages – the first stage assessed the project design, providing an opportunity to develop a joint understanding the underlying rationale approach. The second stage was a process evaluation on how the project worked in practice. The third stage assessed the overall effectiveness of the pilot and made recommendations for broader roll-out.
The evaluation included a range of consultation and engagement processes including focus groups with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their families. The result of the project was a set of resources and processes to assist schools better engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, and vice versa.
