Pathways to work
A national action plan on policies required to improve pathways from schooling to further education and employment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
The Commonwealth Government commissioned Outpost Consulting to prepare an action plan to improve and coordinate education and employment pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
At the time, many different Commonwealth and State Government agencies were pursuing a range of programs and policies in this space as part of their commitment to Closing the Gap in outcomes between Indigenous and non-Indigenous students. We reviewed the work underway and how it aligned with the research and with related work to develop a coherent policy picture from vocational education through to higher education and employment.
The result was a document, approved by Commonwealth and State Ministers for Education and Employment, to be used by governments as the basis for targeting efforts and strengthening pathways between sectors for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
